Ice hockey legends join Kunlun Red Star International Advisory Board

Another great move from Kunlun Red Star Ice Hockey club! After the first away playoff game, KRS has announce the establishment of the International Advisory Board, members including legendary ice hockey player Phil Esposito, legendary coach Mike Keenan, legendary women’s ice hockey coach Digit Murphy and others who will recruit worldwide top tier ice hockey talents for KRS and strengthen the global impact of the club.
The first tier of advisor list consisting of 8 influential advisors , who are: Phil Esposito. Mike Keenan, Roman Rotenberg, Vladimir Yurzinov Jr., Digit Murphy, Bobby Carpenter, Alexander Barkov, and Scotty MacPherson. Among which Mrs. Digit Murphy’s participation in the advisory board means the start of building the KRS women’s ice hockey team.
KRS International Advisory Board will hold an expert discussion panel themed as “gathering the global great thoughts, improve the weakness in China’s ice hockey, contributing to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic games”, contributing suggestions and thoughts to the development of KRS, and also for the breakthrough of China’s ice hockey performance and industry. Meanwhile, the advisory board will hold several in-depth discussions concerning overall improvement of Kunlun Red Star, including creating the comprehensive Kunlun Red Star ice hockey industry ecosystem, holding China-leading high standard international professional men’s and women’s ice hockey league games, the global recruitment of Chinese ice hockey players for Kunlun Red Star, supporting the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic games, and also ice hockey Youth stage Training etc., through our close cooperation with the global experts.
After the season, KRS will hold a series of marketing events in Beijing and North America, making the public aware of the business model of KRS, preparing for the talented player acquisition for next season and the strategic deployment of the club, providing support and further enlarger the global impact of the Club. As one of the purpose of the road shows, the club will be recruiting Chinese hockey players globally so as to make more Chinese players to play in the 1st tier team, and attending games on behalf of KRS National Youth Team. During the next game season, the teams of KRS will be participating in several professional league games including, KHL, VHL, MHL, etc.
Legendary Stars & Coaches
Among the International Advisory Board, Phil Esposito first comes to the front of the name list. As an NHL famous player, he was selected as the one of the 100 greatest players in NHL in 2017. In 1282 career games, he got 1590 points in total (717 goals and 873 assists), ranked No.10 of the all-time points leaders. He was a 10-time All Star, the alternate captain of Boston Bruins and captain of New York Rangers, 5-time Art Ross Trophy winner, 2-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner, and won the Stanley Cup twice. After retiring as a player, Esposito served as head coach and general manager of the New York Rangers before co-founding the Tampa Bay Lightning. Phil will join the KRS International Advisory Board as the Strategic Development Advisor.
Roman Rotenberg, member of the KRS International Advisory Board, is the first vice-president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, a member of KHL Executive Board and Board of Directors, vice-chairman of KHL Executive Board, and vice-president of SKA St. Petersburg Ice Hockey Club. As one of the most successful professional sports operators, Mr. Roman Rotenberg will join the KRS International Advisory Board as the Strategic Development Advisor, and will assist KRS’s strategic development, event operation, commercial development, etc.
Mike Keenan will join the KRS International Advisory board as the Technical Development Advisor. Known as one of the world’s most famous and legendary coaches, he served as head coach of many NHL teams such as Philadaphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames. He also brought KHL powerhouse Metallurg Magnitogorsk to win Gagarin Cup in 2013-14. He is the only coach who won both NHL and KHL championships.
KRS Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey Teams
Vladimir Yurzinov Jr, famous Russian Coach, coached several top-tier clubs in Finland and Russia, including SKA and Salavat Yulaev Ufa, currently is the head coach of KRS Men’s Hockey Team, bring Red Star to playoffs in its very first year. His father Vladmir Yurzinov Sr. is also a famous ice hockey player and coach, inducted in the Russian / Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame both as a player and a coach. He was also honored by IIHF Hall of Fame induction.
Digit Murphy will joining KRS as the Chief Coach of KRS Women’s Ice Hockey Team. It is also the first time KRS Women’s Hockey team exposed the public’s attention. Ms. Murphy is a legend in the field of women’s ice hockey in North America, and was inducted in the Hall of Fame of Cornell University. Among her 20 years’ coaching career, she coached the US women’s national hockey team in Olympics and world championships. The strong belief in women’s ice hockey, and the passion for coaching ice hockey has make Murphy the key driving force of women’s ice hockey. Murphy will establish the very first professional Women’s Ice Hockey team in China, and recruit outstanding female players to join the team and attend the top tier league games among the world, meanwhile, she will be responsible in building the National Youth (Women’s) Ice Hockey Team.
KRS global strategy and youth training section
Bobby Carpenter, former NHL player who got drafted by Washington Capitals in 1981 and the first player to come to the NHL directly from high school. He keeps the record of the quickest assist by a player in his first game – he assisted on a goal by Ryan Walter after only 12 seconds of his debut against Buffalo Sabres on 7 October 1981. In his 1178 career games, he scored 320 goals and 408 assists. He won the Stanley Cup with New Jersey Devils in 1995. Upon retirement, Bobby Carpenter stayed on as an assistant coach, winning two more Stanley Cups with New Jersey Devils in 2000 and 2003. He was consultant for Toronto Maple Leafs during 2009-2015. Aside from joining the KRS International Advisory Board, Bobby will also serve as the player recruitment and development coach.
Alexander Barkov is a Russian professional ice hockey coach. He played for HC Sibir and HC Dynamo Moscow in the Soviet era, and later for Tappara in Finnish SM-liiga. He coached Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Ak Bars Kazan and Finland U20 National Team. His son Alexander Barkov Jr. was born in Finland and plays for Florida Panthers in the NHL. He will be joining KRS as the Chief Coach of China’s National Youth Team.
Scotty MacPherson has many years of coaching experience in NCAA and ECHL, and has been the player agent/scout for many NHL clubs. He has in-depth understanding in North American and global ice hockey system, and special insights concerning player training and career development. He will join KRS as the Global Development Director.
