The KHL took a break this weekend, but one of Kunlun’s players was busy racking up goals and helping the Chernyshev Division to triumph in the All-Star Game in Ufa.

Chad Rau scored twice in the showpiece tournament to finish up with a winner’s medal after our division edged past Eastern Conference rival Team Kharlamov in the semis then beat Team Tarasov of the Western Conference 3-2 in the final. That wrapped up a good weekend for Rau, who also helped the Eastern Conference to success in Saturday’s Skill Show.

As the first Kunlun player to get an All-Star, Chad did a great job of representing our club – not least with two vital goals in the semi-final. His first marker tied the game with a clinical finish, flipping a backhand over Pavel Francouz’s shoulder.

As recently as last Thursday Rau helped Kunlun beat Francouz’s Traktor in KHL action, and he wasn’t finished with tormenting the goalie yet. He got a second goal early in the second period, quickly reinstating Chernyshev’s lead with an attempt from a tight angle that squeezed home off the netminder’s pads. Rau finished the semi-final with two shots and two goals; the team ended with a 4-3 win.

Chad’s productive form continued into the final, with an assist on Nigel Dawes’ equalizer helping to grab another tight win in front of a capacity crowd in Bashkiria.

The KHL returns to action on Monday, but Kunlun has a little bit of time to rest and prepare for its next game on Thursday, when Slovan visits Beijing.
