How often have you heard someone say that the goalie is at least 50% of any team? We’ve been blessed with some superb displays between the piping this season, and here are five of the best saves for Kunlun in 2016-17.
Sep. 29, Andrei Makarov at SKA
SKA’s potent offense set a KHL record for regular season scoring this season, and much of its success came on odd-man rushes like this one. But Makarov was wise to the play, spreading himself across the crease to thwart Alexander Barabanov.
Sep. 27, Andrei Makarov at CSKA
Our late-September road trip to Petersburg and Moscow was a busy time for Makarov. Here he comes up with another huge save, stretching out a pad to deny CSKA’s Greg Scott.
Sep. 13, Andrei Makarov at Sochi
Another road game, another tough ask for our guys and another huge pad stop as Makarov denies HC Sochi’s Denis Tolpeko.
Sep. 1, Andrei Makarov at Amur
Right from day one, Makarov proved his class in the KHL, and this reaction save to deny Vladimir Pervushin helped us get our season off to a winning start. Maxim Kondratyev’s wrist shot came at the goalie through traffic, and he showed lightning reflexes to shut down Pervushin on the rebound.
Jan. 10, Tomi Karhunen at home to Vityaz
Makarov wasn’t the only goalie to impress for us this season – Tomi Karhunen showed off his skills on several occasions. And few saves were as impressive as this one during our home game with Vityaz, coming as the pressure built up in the playoff race.
